A New Beginning... But Not Just Yet

So, the much-anticipated Fable has been delayed until 2026. Yep, the wait just got a little longer. But don’t worry, the silver lining is that we also got a first look at some pre-alpha gameplay, which, let’s be honest, looks really promising.

This announcement comes straight from the Xbox Game Studios Podcast, where Craig Duncan (formerly of Rare, now head of Xbox Game Studios) shared the news. Duncan reassured fans that while the delay may be disappointing, it’s all for the best of the game and the team. The team at Playground Games—the studio behind Forza Horizon—is bringing their A-game to the Fable franchise, and Duncan’s enthusiasm about the project is absolutely infectious.

What We Saw—And What We Loved

Now, about that gameplay. It looks gorgeous, giving us a sneak peek of environments with some lovely ye olde fantasy settings that had us itching to explore. We get glimpses of characters riding through lush forests and walking through magical towns—honestly, it’s the kind of setting you dream of in these kinds of RPGs.

The pre-alpha footage also teased some combat. Yup, there was a giant rooster fight (because why not?), some sausage cooking in a quirky little cutscene, and a smooth transition into gameplay that felt seamless. It’s got all the hallmarks of a Fable game with a bit of Playground Games charm sprinkled in.

We’re still waiting on the official release date, but 2026 is the new target. It’s a bit of a wait, but it seems like it could be totally worth it.

The 2026 Wait – Not Long Now!

We don’t have a confirmed date for the release just yet, but the excitement around the Playground Games take on the Fable franchise is building up. Craig Duncan’s confidence in the team is clear, and we can only hope that the final product will do justice to the franchise’s legacy. It might be a longer wait, but if the first look at the game is anything to go by, Fable in 2026 could be something truly special.
