Big ideas, big cast—but kinda falls flat.
Coming from Bong Joon-ho (Parasite, Snowpiercer), Mickey 17 had all the makings of a sci-fi classic. His first English-language film, starring Robert Pattinson, plus a plot about a guy being cloned every time he dies? Yeah, I was in.
And for the first 40 minutes, it totally delivers. The world is gorgeous, the ideas are super intriguing, and it feels like we’re building toward something huge. But then… it just never really gets there.
Look, Robert Pattinson is fantastic—no surprises there. He brings the right mix of charisma and existential dread, and honestly, he carries the movie. Toni Collette is also great, and Mark Ruffalo plays a loud, eccentric leader who gives off major Trump energy, making him an easy guy to hate.
But the story? It just kinda… stalls. It starts off making you think it’s gonna be deep and mind-blowing, but instead, it feels like it’s coasting on its concept without doing much with it.
Mickey 17 has all the right ingredients, but it never quite figures out what to cook.
✅ Robert Pattinson crushes it, as expected.
✅ Really cool concept about cloning and identity.
❌ Story kinda runs out of gas halfway through.
❌ Some moments make you go, “Wait, what are we doing here?”
I wouldn’t say Mickey 17 is bad—it’s entertaining, weird, and visually incredible. But it never fully lives up to the wild ideas it introduces. It’s the kind of movie where you’ll be hooked early on, but by the end, you might be wondering, That’s it?
If you’re a sci-fi fan, it’s still worth checking out, especially for Pattinson’s performance and the stunning visuals. Just don’t go in expecting another Parasite—this one’s more about style than substance.
