Warner Bros. Shuts Down 3 Studios – Big Changes in Gaming

A major shakeup.

So, Warner Bros. Discovery just dropped a bombshell – they’re shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. According to a report from Bloomberg, this is all part of their big restructuring plan to cut costs and re-focus. Unfortunately, this means we won’t get to play the Wonder Woman game we were all looking forward to – what a missed opportunity for a killer female superhero game!

Monolith Productions, the team behind the Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor games, has been a fan favourite for a while, and their closure is a huge blow to the gaming community. Meanwhile, Player First Games (the folks who gave us Multiversus) are also getting the axe, with the game set to shut down soon too. Ouch.

As for Warner Bros. Games San Diego, we don’t know much about what they were working on, but we do know they had some projects in the pipeline that will now never see the light of day. It’s tough, especially when the game industry is already going through so many changes, with studios like the makers of Marvel Rivals also facing cuts despite the game’s success.

All these closures and layoffs, even after a game’s success, really have me scratching my head at the reasoning. Let’s hope this turbulence in the industry settles soon – it’s a pretty wild time for gaming, that’s for sure.
